B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture

B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture is a 4-year undergraduate course that primarily focuses on practices and research in agricultural science, dealing with disciplines like Genetics and Plant Breeding, Agricultural Microbiology, Soil Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Agricultural Economics, etc. It is a professional degree recognized by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Government of India in the field of agricultural science. This course aims to provide training to implement modern agricultural techniques and technologies in the real world scenario. The programme is well supported by practicals, viz. Practical Crop Production for Kharif and Rabi Crops, RAWE, etc., incorporating the philosophy of learning by doing. It is adequately supported by on farm and industrial attachment training and study tour.

Programme Objectives (PO)

The objectives of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture Programme are:

  • PO1:Consolidate the student’s training in agriculture science to enhance and promote agricultural, environmental and social sustainability.
  • PO2: Develop the practical skills in students to enhance their observational skills and aid them in evaluating, analyzing and optimizing agriculture based design and development.

Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO)

  • Understand and apply knowledge of core agricultural and allied subjects to solve different problems
  • Analyze various environmental, socio-economic and agricultural problems
  • Design and develop solutions for agricultural problems considering its various components faced by the farming community
  • Solve field/crop(s) production system by applying theoretical principles/ knowledge in the classroom and fields.
  • Use modern tools /resources and softwares for mitigating farmers problems
  • Apply their responsibilities in societal/academic and environmental contexts
  • Exhibit professional ethics and norms of ITK/agricultural and scientific development
  • Facilitate effective working as individual and teamwork.
  • Communicate effectively both in verbal as well as written forms with the scientific and farming community and with society at large towards problem solving and comprehend written reports and design documents for presentation and submission along with understanding, giving and receiving and implementing instructions clearly.
  • Manage, formulate and perform financial accounting of the projects using academic and research knowledge.
  • Practice the need and use of lifelong learning.
  • Exhibit integrated value system and promote physical and mental wellness and alertness.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent system from any recognized Central/ State Board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology or 10+2 with Agriculture with minimum aggregate marks of 45% or equivalent grade for GEN/ OBC and 40% marks or equivalent grade for SC/ ST Category.

Opportunities For B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture

After completing B.Sc. (H.) Agriculture the students may choose either of the following options for their career progression

  • He may go in for higher studies leading to the award of M.Sc. (Ag.) in respective discipline and thereafter pursue Ph.D. for specialization,
  • After completing the M.Sc. (AG.) and Ph.D. they may pursue research career by joining National Agricultural Research System (NARS) by either joining State Agriculture Universities (SAUs) and Private Research Institutions as Asst. Professors, Research Assistants, SRFs, JRFs, etc. or after competing for Agriculture Research Service (ARS) join various ICAR institutes as Scientists,
  • After attaining requisite qualifications, they may decide to join Government Service Civil services of the Central Government, PCS cadre, Agriculture Officers etc.
  • They may also join the banking/insurance sector as Agricultural Officer, Field Officers, Probationary Officers, etc.
  • The new graduates, equipped with latest technical knowhow in agriculture may decide to join the family farming vocation, implement the new ideas and help to enhance the farm business productivity and income for overall prosperity.
  • They may establish Startups for Agri-clinics, technology centers, machinery custom hiring units, etc.
  • They may also start/join various NGOs with the aim of overall rural/farm business development in the area/region.
  • They could also open up a modern dairy, poultry, piggery and fisheries unit and mushroom production units.
