Overview
Initiated in the year 2012, the Institute of Biosciences and Technology started off with the vision to impart remarkable knowledge of biotechnology, and its applications to create a vast pool of scientific personnel with expertise in the field of biotechnology.
Since its inception in 2018, the Faculty of Biotechnology (FoBT) has endeavoured to educate and train its students in the field of biological engineering. The department is successfully running the undergraduate (B Tech), post graduate (M.Tech) and doctoral programmes.
Endless conscious efforts have been made to cope up and amend the syllabus of all the programs to integrate relevant laboratory programs and significant research projects of variable duration. The department firmly believes that a teacher must participate in research work actively to impart the latest knowledge to the students.

The Department of Biotechnology aims to provide an ambience with cutting-edge teaching methodologies based on research led learning, which enables the students to emerge as technocrats for contributing in building remarkable community standards.

Dr. Siddharth Vats holds a Master of Technology in Biotechnology from the University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Kurukshetra, Kurukshetra University, Haryana, as well as a PhD in Biotechnology from the Department of Biotechnology, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He was a rank holder throughout his studies. He has qualified for GATE conducted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
He joined Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University, Barabanki (UP) as an Assistant Professor in 2014. He is currently serving the university as an Associate Professor and Dean, Faculty of Biotechnology (FoBT), Institute of Biosciences and Technology at SRMU. He has currently supervised 30+ B Tech, 07 M.Sc./M.Tech, and 03 PhD Biotechnology projects.
Dr. Vats was given a "Prashashti Patra" Letter of Appreciation for his contribution to SRMU by the University in the year 2021. He was given the Excellence in Teaching Award-2020" at the International Conference organised by the Agro Environmental Development Society (AEDS), BBAU Central University Lucknow, Departamento de Biologia Molecular Biotechnologia, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, & Plant Pathology Research Inst. Egypt. He also got appreciation from the ministers of the UP government. At the govt.-organised function for doing theme-based Broadway shows on "drugs and religious differences" and "today’s youth" in Lucknow at the "Indira Gandhi Pratishthan", representing the SRMU.
He believes learning is a continuous process and was selected for fully funded BIRAC and DBT, Govt. of India sponsored Hands-on Training at IIT Delhi (2020) and DST-SERB sponsored workshops (2021).
He was also awarded various grants by the University Research and Consultancy Cell.
He is a life member of the Biotech Research Society, India, Vibha (VigyanBharati, India) and the Agro Environmental Development Society (AEDS). He is also a reviewer for Springer's The Journal of Food Science and Technology (JFST), the official publication of the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists of India (AFSTI), and The Journal of Food and Bioprocess Technology (Springer Nature).
Dr. Vats has authored more than 41 peer-reviewed articles, including 13 book chapters for Springer/Elsevier/CRC Press. His works have been published in several leading journals, including Bio Resource Technology, Journal of Nano-Biotechnology, Indian Journal of Experimental Biotechnology, Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research, Indian Journal of Biotechnology, etc.
His Patent on A Composition And A Method For The Preparation Of An Anti-Microbial Scaffold From Bio-Waste has been published on the Indian Patent Office's official website. Dr. Vats also serves on the boards of several central clubs and centres at the university level.
