NSS – Unit 2 of SHRI RAMSWAROOP MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY has organized 7 days special (Day/Night) camp from 17/01/2019 to 23/01/2019 at the village Mati, Barabanki. Based on Survey Camp the theme of this camp was ‘Cleanliness and ‘Education’ for the community. For the personality development of the volunteers the group was made for team work, building leadership quality and creativity to achieve the camp objective. In this camp the volunteers for different courses (Management, Legal Studies, Bioscience, and Engineering) has participated. A list of 50 selected volunteers was prepared and they were divided into different groups for smooth conduction of different tasks /responsibilities during the camp. Following are the groups:

The camp was inaugurated at Mati Village by Gram Pradhan Sri Harvansh Kumar and university authorities at 11:00 AM in the morning in the presence of villagers.


Apart from main theme the other areas of social issues upon which the unit has served its objectives were:

  • Health and personal Hygiene
  • Spread awareness to have clean area and disposal of wet and dry garbage
  • Girl education
  • To help old age women to get benefit of different schemes like Vridha pension yojna.
  • To make them aware about 1090 helpline.

The area of camp was Mati Village. The volunteers worked in groups of 10, each group has 5 members. The routine during the camp was as per follows -

  • Departure for camp – 9:00AM
  • Attendance - 9:30 AM
  • Breakfast - 10:00 AM
  • Different activities and survey during camp – 10:15 t0 2:00PM
  • Lunch - 2:15 PM
  • Break - 2:30 to 3:00PM
  • Reporting and Group Activity – 3:00PM to 4:30 Pm
  • Evening Refreshment - 4:30Pm
  • Physical Activities - 4:45PM to 5:45PM
  • Attendance - 6:00PM
  • Report Preparation – 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
  • Cultural Activities and plan for next Day - 7:00PM to 8:30PM
  • Dinner and Rest - 9:00PM Onwards

The NSS volunteers start their day by singing NSS song every day. The volunteers were familiar with the community during survey camps and other one day camps in the village. In the groups volunteers identified needs and the problems of the community to solve the problems. The volunteers interacted with the community and especially motivated them to have their own toilets inside households and made them aware about the government schemes to have financial assistance in this area. They found majority houses, were having the toilets in their homes, except few, they were in process. The volunteers utilized their education through teaching the primary school children, also those kids who are not studying. They also organized extracurricular activities for the children to motivate them for study. The NSS volunteers motivated the children to do regular class and convinced their parents to send them school daily.




After reaching at the camp, First day camp is inaugurated by Gram Pradhan in presence of villagers and university authorities. Volunteers settled in the camp and they divided in their groups, Understanding their roles and responsibilities. Important instructions were given by Program Officer, Dr. Madhu Tiwari regarding discipline, different camp activities. The volunteers started their activities.

The volunteers interacted and made rapport with the villagers in their groups. They talked about their motive through this camp. Volunteers surveyed the households and spread message about cleanliness, personal health and hygiene. During second day volunteers observed that despite of having toilets at their homes, villagers are habitual for open defecation. The volunteers counseled and convinced them to use toilets and make it their habit to make the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan campaign successful.

NSS conducted a program in association with 1090, Coordinator Dr. Veena Singh, from SRMU and their team to make women villagers aware about the helpline. Village women actively participated in this Program. The NSS girl volunteers organized an interactive session with the females of the village regarding their health problems and personal hygiene. They talked, educated them and provided solutions for their problems, guided them importance of vaccination.

The volunteers identified small kids below age of 5 years who are not going to school. They called the kids, make their groups and taught them about healthy habits and motivated them for education. Volunteers organized a poem competition and race competition and winner kids get sweets and chocolates as the prizes.

With the counseling sessions of villagers for say ‘No open defecation’, they also observed the cleanliness of drains inside the villagers. It was in very poor condition and the villagers have complaints about the garbage. Volunteers convince villagers to participate in clean drive and make clean and healthy environment inside the village. They marked the areas where there is need to clean the drains.

The volunteers cleaned the drains and area inside the village which was inn very bad condition. In this work villagers and sweepers actively and voluntarily supported the NSS volunteers to make their village neat and clean. They met to Gram Pradhan with their suggestions and requested to make arrangements for disposal and better management of garbage.


At the last day of camp, the volunteers presented a ‘Nukkad Natak’ on theme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ and spread the awareness about the importance of Girl child education among the villagers. The volunteers also celebrated the 122th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. To celebrate the occassions they presented song and poem in the presence of villagers, Gram Pradhan and university authorities. At the end of the camp, villagers, Gram Pradhan Mr. Harvansh Kumar, university authorities and NSS volunteers have attended the camp. The NSS volunteers shared their experience with the guests.

Registrar-Academics), Mr. Munish Malhotra (Dy. Registrar-Admin), Ms. Puja Prakash((Dy. Registrar-HR), Mr. Rakesh Jaiswal (Accounts Office), All the Directors/ Deans; Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Prakash(IMCE) Prof. Prof. (Dr.) Mohit Verma(IMCE), Prof. (Dr.) B. M. Dixit(INSH), Prof. (Dr.)Moin Athar (Legal Studies), Dr. Amarpal Singh; NSS Program Officer Unit 1, Mrs. Nancy Gupta Coordinator NCC, Dr. Rajlaxmi Srivastava and Dr. Veena Singh; Coordinator ‘Power Angel’ and faculty members of the various institutes from the university.

At the end of the camp group song and solo song was presented by the NSS volunteers.Major Finding – Not proper arrangement of drainage system in the village.

Efforts by NSS – The problem were conveyed to the Gram Pradhan, and the financial assistance by the govt. in this regard was informed by the volunteers to the community.

The NSS Unit 2 is thankful to Honorable Chancellor Sir, Prochancellor Ma’am and Vice Chancellor Sir to encourage these kinds of social activities to serve the society. Unit is also thankful to Vice Chancellor Sir and Registrar sir for giving the permission to organize the camp. Unit is especially thankful to Mr. Munish Malhotra (Administrative Officer) and their staff members, Dr. Akankssha Nigam (Academic Registrar) for making necessary arrangements for the camp. In addition to the above, NSS is also thankful to the Directors/Deans and the faculty members of various institutes to encourage and motivate the students for NSS camp participation and making the camp successful.
