B. Tech. in Civil Engineering is an undergraduate engineering programme of 4 years and is one of the oldest and most popular branch of engineering in India as well as abroad. It is a perfect course to pursue in the current economy, as India is a developing nation and the need for skilled Civil engineers is high to design and build infrastructure projects such as roads, buildings, dams, canals, etc. Civil engineering can offer one of the most lucrative job offers in the technology sector and civil engineers can also apply for IT jobs after having in depth knowledge of civil engineering software. It can broadly be classified into 5 major sectors namely, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Water Resource Engineering.

Objectives

Outcome

  • Graduates shall demonstrate sound knowledge in Civil Engineering problem identification, formulation, analysis, design, laboratory investigations and construction aspects of civil engineering infrastructure utilizing advanced/ appropriate technology.
  • Inculcating in students technical competencies to deal with practical aspects of civil engineering problems within stipulated/specified time and funds using modern construction techniques and equipment.
  • Graduates shall develop broad understanding of economic, environmental, societal, health and safety factors and demonstrate ability to interact and work seamlessly in multidisciplinary teams with competence in modern tool usage.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent system from any recognized Central/ State Board with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Computer Science/ Technical Vocational subject. Candidate must have obtained minimum 45% marks or equivalent grade for SC/ST category in the above subjects taken together.

Opportunities For B.Tech Civil Engineering students


The career opportunities available for a graduate in civil engineering in various public, private or government sector are presented with the help of a flow chart.

Specialization Courses


After clearing B.Tech. first year in any of the branches of engineering, student has an option of opting for B.Tech. with specialization. Additional at-least 20 credits to be taken in the specialization stream offered by the department. On completion of the basic credit of 160 and additional credits, student will be eligible to get B.Tech. with specialization in the stream taken.

If the specialization course of 20 additional credits offered by any department do not require pre-requisites of completion of subjects in its branch, then that particular specialization stream can be open to students from other branches of engineering.

In such cases, the students will be eligible to get B.Tech. in major discipline (i.e branch in which the student is doing B.Tech.) with minor in the specialization stream. For example, if the specialization stream offered by Computer Science & Engineering is taken by a student of Electrical Engineering then on successful completion of the course, the student will be eligible to get B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering with minor in the specialization stream of Computer Science Engineering.
