Staying Safe Online: SRMU Students Learn Cyber Awareness from STF Officer

hri Ramswaroop Memorial University organized an insightful Workshop on Cyber Awareness on 4th October 2025 at the university campus. The session, organized under the aegis of the Research Cell, SRMU, was held in collaboration with the 1090 Club and featured Mr. Vishal Vikram Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Special Task Force (STF), as the resource person. The event aimed to educate students, research scholars, and faculty members about the growing challenges of cyber threats and to promote a culture of digital safety and responsibility.

The workshop began with a warm welcome to the guest speaker, followed by an overview of the university’s commitment to fostering digital literacy among its academic community. In his opening remarks, Dr. Shailender Bisht, Deputy Director (Research), highlighted the significance of cyber awareness in today’s interconnected world, where almost every professional and personal activity has an online footprint. He emphasized that such sessions play a crucial role in empowering young minds to protect themselves and others from the risks posed by the misuse of technology. During the session, Mr. Vishal Vikram Singh shared his vast experience in dealing with cybercrime investigations and elaborated on the types of cyber threats that individuals often face, such as phishing, identity theft, online frauds, social media scams, and data breaches. He also discussed several real-life case studies from his work at the Special Task Force, giving participants a firsthand understanding of how criminals exploit digital vulnerabilities and how law enforcement tracks and curbs such activities. His talk underscored the importance of being cautious while sharing personal information online, verifying sources before clicking on links, and maintaining strong, secure passwords.

The session was highly interactive, as students and faculty engaged in meaningful discussions about current cyber challenges, legal frameworks, and ethical aspects of technology use. Mr. Singh also introduced participants to the cybersecurity initiatives undertaken by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and how platforms like the 1090 Women Power Line are contributing to building safer digital spaces, especially for women and young users. The resource person further encouraged students to become ambassadors of cyber awareness by spreading the message of responsible online conduct in their social and professional circles. The workshop concluded with a vibrant Q&A session, where students raised thoughtful questions related to privacy protection, cyber laws, and preventive measures against online exploitation. Mr. Singh patiently addressed each query, offering practical advice and actionable steps to stay secure in the digital environment. The session received an overwhelming response, reflecting the growing interest among students in understanding cybersecurity as both a personal necessity and a potential career avenue.
