Overview

The study of behavior and the mind is known as psychology. Different branches of psychology exist, including developmental, forensic, social, and cognitive psychology. The study of psychology has applications in many different domains, including forensics, industry, organizations, health, and clinics. Although psychology was once primarily thought of as a branch of science, it is now used more widely in the humanities.

The Faculty of Psychology at SRMU is a highly dedicated and committed faculty that aims to impart high quality education among its students. M.A. Psychology is a professional degree that studies human behaviour and the mind under different scenarios or complications. It helps the students have in-depth insights into clinical psychology, health psychology, work psychology, social psychology, neuropsychology, emotions, and paradigm studies. The program aims to provide students with the skills and information required to effectively deal with the challenges and issues of the real world.

Eligibility Criterion

Candidates must have passed Graduation from any recognised University or AICTE recognised Institute/College in any stream with Psychology/Applied Psychology as compulsory subject with minimum aggregate marks of 45% or CGPA of 5.0 for Gen/OBC and 40% marks or CGPA of 4.5 for SC/ST Category.

Program Objectives
  1. Impart quality education in the field of language, literature, communication, social work, and social sciences.

  2. Give theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject and introduce latest concepts, theories, tools, and techniques.

  3. Instill critical thinking and research orientation through task based learning such as field visit, seminar, discussion, debate, survey, assignment, project writing, etc.

  4. Prepare students for higher studies in their field of expertise and provide workable knowledge to crack various competitive examinations.

  5. Promote interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary learning through interdisciplinary approaches of teaching.

  6. Improve written and oral communication and equip with good communication and presentation skills to meet organizational needs.

  1. Disciplinary / Professional Knowledge: Define and demonstrate an understanding of fundamental concepts, theories, principles and terminology of concerned discipline (literature, linguistics, sociology, psychology, political science and social work).

  2. Problem analysis and solutions: Analyse problems and issues concerning language, literature, social sciences, human affairs/psyche and socio-psychological or socio-political matters. Apply experience and knowledge of subject to solve existing problems in the field of study.

  3. Modern Methods, Tools and Techniques: Apply and use modern methods, tools and techniques to solve complex problems and issues of the discipline; and create a human friendly environment.

  4. Inter and Trans-disciplinary development: Identify, differentiate and assess how language, literature, history, sociology, psychology, political science, social work, science, technology, etc. are connected to one another and contribute to human society. Demonstrate an understanding of interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach of learning.

  5. Ethics and Integrated Value System: Apply professional ethics, responsibilities towards society, culture, race, religion and nation while suggesting new ideas or solutions to existing problems and try to establish integrated value system in society.

  6. Individual and Team Work: Take part in team work comfortably while working with people of different interest, class, community, culture and socio-political background and in the work of individual interest.

  7. Communication and Presentation: Communicate confidently the knowledge acquired from literature, linguistics, sociology, political science, psychology, social work, etc. to the society in both written and oral form. Organize effective presentations on the subjects of their interest.

  8. Vocational and Industry Exposure: Apply professional skills and industry exposure to serve industry and society.

  9. Lifelong Learning: Utilize theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject in day-to-day situations to improve upon lifestyle and social condition either at workplace or at home, throughout life.

  10. Education and Society: Discuss and Estimate the impact of theories and concepts in an individual’s holistic education and integral development of society.

  11. Environment Sustainability, Social Sensitivity and Rural Development: Propose innovative ideas and modify outdated techniques and methods for sustainable development. Motivate general public for the protection/conservation of natural resources. Demonstrate sensitivity towards rural and backward society and design policies/projects for their integral development.

  12. National Integration, Constitution, Culture and Heritage: Value and take part in activities concerning national integration, constitution, culture and heritage.


Program Specific Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the major theoretical perspectives and research methods with recent advances in the discipline of psychology and discuss the nature and basic concepts of psychological processes i.e. emotion, motivation and cognition.

  2. Interpret and analyze various theories of personality, and demonstrate fundamentals of Psychological assessment facilitate professional identity and commitment to professional ethics, discuss application of Psychology in human life.

  3. Appraise a piece of knowledge in the professional fields of psychology, specifically, in the field of Clinical/Organizational psychology , improve competencies and professional skills for working and conducting research in the field of Clinical/Organizational Psychology, develop or create a view to promote healthy interface between academia and society.
