Public Health is an interdisciplinary programme in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and focuses on training human resources in the field of public health, with a strong understanding of the determinants of health and the public health system in India. The course contains the community context and global scenario of public health system, policy and management in developing countries, epidemiology research methodology, biostatistics and computer application in health research social demography and population control, gender, aging and society, financial management and budgeting, communication in healthcare, RMNCH+A, integration of AYUSH with public health and ethics and legislations in public health. It includes the specialization in Epidemiology, Program Policy and Planning, Health Administration and Communication, and Sanitation and Waste Management with concurrent field work.

To prepare public health practitioners having the knowledge and skills to improve community health for sustainable development.
To impart knowledge on methods of disease prevention and health promotion and develop ability to design and implement strategies to enhance public health and strengthen the health systems.
To develop the critical ability among health professionals to analyze and understand the impact of public health policies on health status and indicators.
To impart skills for conducting research in public health to enhance evidence-based decision making, advocacy, financial management and leadership skills etc.
At the completion of the two years MPH program, these professionals will be able to: apply contemporary ideas to influence program organization and management, problem solving and critical thinking in public health domain; undertake operational research in institutional and field settings; work with socially, culturally, economically and regionally diverse populations by being attentive to needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups and be well versed with existing health systems.
Critically conduct the situational analysis and develop action plan for identified public health issues and develop an understanding of the epidemiological transitions of programs specific to each State within the country in order to prioritize public health challenges for policy making.
Understand roles of supply and demand in policy making in health care and critically analyze resource allocation for competing public health interests across programs; formulate context appropriate policies and design programs to address public health challenges, effectively.
Understand and apply quality assurance and improvement techniques in health care; identify immediate and long term health program goals at national, State and district levels; and understand and apply program budgeting and economic evaluation.
Understand and apply ethical principles in research, evaluation and dissemination; and develop competence to critically evaluate existing information and identify gaps.
