Overview

The aim of this undergraduate B.A. (Hons.) Sociology is to acquaint students with the sociological perspectives, concepts, theories and varied approaches of social change and social problem, while equipping them with the critical skills through creative writing, statistics, research methods, report writing and field work. SRMU is ranked as the best B.A. (Hons.) Sociology College in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh where students will also be asked to choose a paper of specialization in Sociology of Education, Rural Sociology, Industrial Sociology and Sociology of Development.

The Faculty of Sociology at SRMU shares a rich teaching and  research experience with expertise in various domains of Sociological understanding. The program examines numerous facets of social behaviour and how it affects contemporary society. Sociology is a field of study that looks into various facets of society and social interaction. A bachelor's degree in sociology teaches the basic ideas about how society is organised and structured, as well as how people interact within these frameworks. The core subject matter of sociology is concerned with issues such as family structure, international conflict, religious cults, socioeconomic class, race, and gender, among other things. With the help of this program, one can comprehend fundamental principles as well as modern advancements in sociological theory and investigation. This allows the critical evaluation of the social values we uphold.

Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent system from any recognized Central/State Board in any stream with minimum aggregate marks of 45% or equivalent grade for Gen/OBC and 40% marks or equivalent grade for SC/ST Category.

Program Objectives
  1. Equip students with the basic concepts and theories of Sociology.

  2. Sensitize the students towards the trends and critical evaluation of the contemporary societal processes.

  3. Develop an understanding of the Sociological methods and tools of data collection, analysis and interpretation.

  4. Aware them about the developmental measure and enable them contribute towards the formulation of developmental issues.

  5. Broaden their academic, scientific and research capabilities.

  6. Prepare them to develop a multitasking personality and take up upcoming challenges of their future prospect

  1. Disciplinary / Professional Knowledge: Define and demonstrate an understanding of fundamental concepts, theories, principles and terminology of concerned discipline (literature, linguistics, sociology, psychology, political science and social work).

  2. Problem analysis and solutions: Analyse problems and issues concerning language, literature, social sciences, human affairs/psyche and socio-psychological or socio-political matters. Apply experience and knowledge of subject to solve existing problems in the field of study.

  3. Modern Methods, Tools and Techniques: Apply and use modern methods, tools and techniques to solve complex problems and issues of the discipline; and create a human friendly environment.

  4. Inter and Trans-disciplinary development: Identify, differentiate and assess how language, literature, history, sociology, psychology, political science, social work, science, technology, etc. are connected to one another and contribute to human society. Demonstrate an understanding of interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach of learning.

  5. Ethics and Integrated Value System: Apply professional ethics, responsibilities towards society, culture, race, religion and nation while suggesting new ideas or solutions to existing problems and try to establish integrated value system in society.

  6. Individual and Team Work: Take part in team work comfortably while working with people of different interest, class, community, culture and socio-political background and in the work of individual interest.

  7. Communication and Presentation: Communicate confidently the knowledge acquired from literature, linguistics, sociology, political science, psychology, social work, etc. to the society in both written and oral form. Organize effective presentations on the subjects of their interest.

  8. Vocational and Industry Exposure: Apply professional skills and industry exposure to serve industry and society.

  9. Lifelong Learning: Utilize theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject in day-to-day situations to improve upon lifestyle and social condition either at workplace or at home, throughout life.

Environment Sustainability, Social Sensitivity and Rural Development: Propose innovative ideas and modify outdated techniques and methods for sustainable development.Motivate general public for the protection/conservation of natural resources. Demonstrate sensitivity towards rural and backward society and design policies/projects for their integral development.
