Frequently Asked Questions

BTech (Bachelor of Technology) is a 4-year undergraduate engineering degree offered after Class 12. MTech (Master of Technology) is a 2-year postgraduate engineering program pursued after completing a BTech or BE. BTech focuses on foundational engineering concepts, while MTech provides advanced specialization and research opportunities.
CE in BTech usually stands for Civil Engineering, a branch that deals with the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure such as buildings, roads, bridges, dams, airports, and water supply systems.
M1, M2, M3, and M4 are commonly used names for the engineering mathematics subjects taught across different semesters: M1 (Engineering Mathematics-I): Calculus, Matrices, Differential Equations. M2 (Engineering Mathematics-II): Vector Calculus, Complex Variables, Probability. M3 (Engineering Mathematics-III): Fourier Series, Numerical Methods, Laplace Transform. M4 (Engineering Mathematics-IV): Advanced Mathematics topics such as Statistics, Optimization, and PDEs. The syllabus may vary slightly depending on the university.
After completing a BTech in Civil Engineering, students can: Pursue MTech or MBA. Prepare for GATE, UPSC, SSC JE, or State Engineering Services. Work as a Site Engineer, Structural Engineer, Project Engineer, or Design Engineer. Join construction companies, government departments, or PSUs. Start their own consultancy or construction business.
Yes, many private engineering colleges offer direct admission to BTech programs through management quota, institute-level seats, or merit-based admission. Students typically need to have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) and meet the minimum eligibility criteria set by the college. Some colleges may accept admissions without a JEE Main score, while others may consider JEE Main or their own entrance test. The admission process, seat availability, and fee structure vary from one institution to another.
The BTech cutoff varies every year depending on: JEE Main rank. Branch selected. Category. Number of applicants. Seat availability. The official cutoff is released during the UPTAC counselling process.
The BTech fee structure varies depending on the college, branch, and type of institution. In private engineering colleges, the tuition fee generally ranges from ₹70,000 to ₹2,50,000 per year. Premium private universities may charge higher fees. In addition to tuition fees, students may need to pay for hostel accommodation, examination fees, registration, and other academic charges. Many colleges also offer scholarships and financial assistance based on merit or eligibility.
The admission process generally includes: Qualify JEE Main. Register for UPTAC counselling. Choose SRMU during choice filling. Seat allotment and document verification. Pay the admission fee and complete enrolment. Vacant seats, if any, may later be filled through the university's direct admission process according to official rules.
Students admitted through the direct admission process generally pay the same academic tuition fee as regular admitted students. Additional one-time charges like enrolment fee, caution money, and identity card fee may apply. The final amount depends on the university's latest fee structure.
Candidates must have a BE or BTech degree in the relevant discipline. MTech admissions done according to the eligibility criteria and admission guidelines published by the university. Currently, MTech admissions are available through the official admission process.
The BTech fee is approximately ₹60,080 - ₹60,130 per semester, excluding refundable caution money and one-time enrolment charges. Students should verify the latest fee notification before admission.
To be eligible for admission to a BTech program at a private university, candidates must have passed Class 12 (10+2) from a recognized board with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with Chemistry, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Biology, or a technical vocational subject. Most universities require a minimum of 45% - 50% aggregate marks (relaxation may apply for reserved categories as per government norms). Admission may be based on JEE Main scores, the university's entrance exam, or direct admission according to the institution's admission policy.
