SRMU Celebrates International Yoga Day with Great Enthusiasm

With an aim to promote community awareness about yoga and encourage a healthy lifestyle, Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU) organized a series of grand events on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21. The campus witnessed yoga sessions, meditation workshops, and awareness activities to mark the occasion.

The day began with a collective chant of mantras and guided yoga asanas, breathing techniques (Pranayama), and mindfulness meditation under the expert guidance of Yoga Specialist Mr. Anand Pratap Singh.

Speaking at the event, Chancellor Er. Pankaj Agarwal described yoga as a priceless gift of Indian culture. He said,

"Yoga is not merely a physical exercise but an art of establishing harmony between mind, body, and soul. International Yoga Day reminds us that through yoga, we can not only improve our health but also fulfill our responsibilities toward society and the environment. At SRMU, our aim is for every student to make yoga an integral part of their life and spread its benefits to the community."

The theme of this year’s celebration, “Yoga for Self and Society, for One Health,” inspired unity and holistic well-being.

Pro-Chancellor Er. Pooja Agarwal highlighted the scientific aspects of yoga, stating,

"Modern science has also recognized the benefits of yoga. It is an effective tool for stress management, mental health, and physical fitness. In today’s fast-paced life, especially for the youth, yoga serves as a tool to remain balanced and focused."

Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Mishra emphasized the importance of integrating yoga into university life:

"The goal of a university is not only to award degrees but to nurture a complete personality. Yoga teaches self-discipline, patience, and concentration — essential qualities for every student."

Academic Advisor Ms. Arushi Agarwal added that the university is working towards incorporating yoga into the curriculum to ensure students are not just academically excellent but also mentally and physically healthy.

Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Neerja Jindal spoke about the social and cultural importance of yoga:

"Yoga is a pride of Indian heritage that has been embraced globally. It promotes unity, peace, and compassion. At SRMU, we aim to not only promote wellness in our campus community but also bring about positive change in society."

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, deans, directors, and other dignitaries, reflecting SRMU’s commitment to holistic education and community well-being.
